Commentator of the Year
The Financial Times' Claer Barrett collects her trophy from Varda Bachrach, Head of Communications at TipRanks and awards host Kerry Godliman
Winner: Claer Barrett, Financial Times
Presented with a high-calibre shortlist, this category took the judges a fair bit of deliberation because after the first round of scoring there wasn’t much in it amongst three of the journalists. Following a second phase of adjudication, the judges eventually reached a decision with Claer Barrett of the Financial Times emerging as the winner.
“Fascinating subjects, well-written and engaging,” said one judge. She “puts the situation into perspective for readers and gives them useful knowledge”. Another judge remarked that “the digital vetting angle was original and informative and both the salary sacrifice and lifetime allowance topics are perfect fodder for FT readers”.
Highly Commended: Iona Bain, i Newspaper
The judges were also keen to recognise Iona Bain for her work commenting that her submission was “written with emotional intelligence as well as financial knowledge bringing overlooked topics to the public”.
