Expert of the Year
Maike Currie, Investment Director from Fidelity International, collects her Award from Headlinemoney's Head of Editorial Claire Beard and Awards Host Marcus Brigstocke
WINNER: MAIKE CURRIE, FIDELITY INTERNATIONAL
It can be an uphill struggle for a financial expert to get his/her name in the media, let alone to be called back for further comment, but Fidelity International’s Maike Currie is going from strength to strength as a well-recognised spokesperson in the industry.
Providing insight on a range of topics from pensions to personal finance, investments, interest rates and inflation, Maike was described as “making complicated subjects easy to understand”. As she points out in her submission, she continues to “spearhead a focus on women and money, highlighting the disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on women”.
Maike serves the breadth of the media - in print, on TV and on the radio. Judges commended the personal touch reflected in her entry, with one judge commenting “she doesn't hide how the personal and the professional have overlapped this past year. Her approach has been calming and practical”.
HIGHLY COMMENDED: LAITH KHALAF, AJ BELL
Laith only joined AJ Bell in September 2020, emerging as one of the UK's top investment commentators and establishing himself as a trusted contact in the media.
In his work providing commentary and analysis across a broad range of subjects, judges highlighted Laith’s “willingness to be contrarian when necessary” and applauded how he “pays due attention to the themes of the moment but also develops his own original research - capturing the attention of numerous journalists in the process”.
