With two entries leading the way after the first round of judging, Laura Purkess from The Sun emerged as the winner following the judging panel’s deliberations.
Voicing praise for Laura’s skill at reaching her audience with a “well-judged use of case studies backed up with powerful storytelling”, judges summed up her entries as “a very well-balanced range of stories highlighting that readers on low incomes or pensions need good advice and help”.

Judges were keen to hand a Highly Commended to Moira O’Neill in this category, describing her entries as “insightful, practical and explanatory pieces for an expert audience”. They applauded her “very high standard of journalism across all the topics presented” and submissions as “a good showcase of her skills as a writer”.
