FTAdviser's Simony Kyriakou collects her Award from CEO of Guardian Katya Maclean and Awards Host Marcus Brigstocke

Two journalists soon emerged as front-runners in this category from the original list of six. After plenty of debate it was FTAdviser’s Simoney Kyriakou who landed the honours, with articles that were “industry focused but have a much wider appeal... with a strong investigative angle”.

“Sounding the alarm about rogue lead generators, followed by a deep dive into cold call scams, and an op-ed 'call to arms' made for very compelling reading,” one judge noted. “Getting an unsolicited call is annoying at the best of times but playing on people’s fears in a pandemic is appalling behaviour. Simoney was the first journalist to call this out,“ commented another.

Proud sponsor of Protection Journalist of the Year (B2B)

We entered the market in August 2018 with a single ambition: for every family to have protection that they truly believe in. We plan to do that by constantly challenging industry norms. And, in line with our brand promise of Life. Made Better, we’ll constantly strive for ‘better’.

We’ve deliberately departed from some of the conventional norms in protection product design. We’ve done this because we believe we should respond to what advisers and their clients need rather than be constrained by industry practice. If you’re starting with a blank sheet of paper and no legacy systems, you can create products that are truly fit for purpose.

And because we feel so strongly that customers need advice to get the protection they need, we’re 100% committed to advisers. They’re our only channel to market.
