Rising Star of the Year (Consumer)
MoneySavingExpert.com's Emily White collects her trophy from Alexander Manas, Commercial Director at Scottish Friendly and awards host Ayesha Hazarika MBE
WINNER:
Emily White, Moneysaving Expert
This Rising Star category was open to journalists starting out in consumer financial journalism after January 2020, and the judges felt great optimism for the future of personal finance consumer reporting based on the shortlist. The panel found it very hard to separate the top two entries after the scoring phase, but in the end, agreed the award should go to MoneySavingExpert’s Emily White.
Emily’s work shows a “clear purpose and is a great example of problem solving”, said one judge. A second judge commented that “her stories have resulted in tangible outcomes for readers, and she has exhibited good consumer champion credentials”.
Highly Commended:
Laura Purkess, for work at Money Mail
Congratulations also go to Laura Purkess, who came so close this year. Laura delivered “solid investigation work that led to impressive scoops with clear impact”, explained one judge.
