Consumer Money Journalist of the Year 2026

Winner

Charlotte Gifford, The Telegraph

The judges were impressed with the skilful way Charlotte used sensitively written case studies to bring out the human angle on a range of complex issues. In doing so, she vividly illustrated the impact of injustices such high interest divorce loans and the way Inheritance Tax would eat into compensation to families impacted by the infected blood scandal. “These stories show rigorous reporting that holds institutions accountable and fights for vulnerable consumers,” said one judge. “Charlotte's work demonstrates determined, impactful consumer journalism that exposes injustice and drives reform,” said another.
