Nations and Regions Journalist of the Year 2026

Winner

Greg Wright, The Yorkshire Post

Greg’s articles showed how financial issues play out in different communities, demonstrating a very clear understanding of who his readers were. He showed how to bring fresh relevance to topics with strong regional angles, drawing in comment from key sources.

The topics, such as living with cladding, were told through the voices of the people most impacted and this impressed the judges: “Really emotive articles which use case studies to demonstrate impact on real people,” said one judge. “The real-life elements help readers engage with the story, backed up with that key regional element to issues having significant impact on local people,” explained another.

Highly Commended

Rosemary Gallagher, The Scotsman

Rosemary produced some top-class articles talking about the basics of personal finance, and topical areas affecting many people. The judging panel commended her deep dive after the Budget as very accessible, explaining, “Good use of research tools from organisations, and a strong message of financial inclusion for all”.
